Comparing Mise-en-scene.

This music video is set in different and unusual places to extend the message that you should be able to express yourself in different situations and places. It also uses unusual characters which are meant to be conventions of different genres, for example horror or thriller, but have become comical. Labrinth isn't in actual locations but uses more green screen backgrounds and places made in studios. The effect of these conventions are that is more interesting to watch and isn't realistic but allows you to escape into "his" world and the things he does and experiences. He is wearing clothes that wouldn't generally be worn by rappers or hip hop singers. His fashion sense is quite unique and more random. They don't carry connotations of a rapper or a singer that has made it "big" because he doesn't wear a lot of jewellery and "labels", however they carry the connotations of someone who is more "down to earth" and more into his music then maybe wearing the latest brands, although his clothes are in fashion. His appeal seems to be he is care free.
This music video has a scene in front of the American flag of Lana del Ray and a male completely naked. This has the connotations of being patriotic and that they're showing love in two different ways; one type for each other and one type for their country. She is also shown sitting on a throne or chair of high status of some sort in a Catholic church with two tigers by her side. This may have the connotations that she is portraying herself as being powerful and "queen-like". The tigers represent aggressiveness as if they're her own personal bodyguards standing by her side. In another scene she is with her male partner in casual clothes; jean shorts and converses. The car isn't an expensive top of the range car but more of a authentic American car. This scene is set outside in an open area around evening time. When she is on her own she is More powerful which is literally shown in the scenes but when she is with her male partner she becomes "his" as he is quite aggressive and forceful towards her but she stays with him as if he owns her. Her appeal seems to be that she is a wild and crazy but still a victim in the sense that she can be controlled by men.
The Mise-en-scene in the two music videos are fairly different as they're trying to promote and advertise themselves and their music in diferent ways.

Katy Perry ft Kanye West - E.T

I like this video because it is different and the theme goes well with the song. Also the lights and effects are used interestingly and uniquely.
